Ingredients

Scale

For the Puff Pastries

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, if frozen)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust for sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening fruit juices)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

For the Cheesecake Filling

  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (optional, for extra flavor)

For Garnish (Optional)

  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Drizzle of icing (made from powdered sugar and milk)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cheesecake Filling
    • In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest (if using).
    • Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  • Prepare the Blueberries
    • In a small bowl, toss the blueberries with the sugar. If using frozen blueberries, add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch to absorb excess moisture.
  • Prepare the Puff Pastry
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 6 equal rectangles or squares.
  • Assemble the Pastries
    • Place the puff pastry pieces onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
    • Add a dollop of cheesecake filling (about 1 tablespoon) to the center of each piece. Spread slightly, leaving a border around the edges.
    • Top the filling with a small spoonful of blueberries.
  • Seal the Pastries
    • Fold the puff pastry edges over to partially enclose the filling, creating a rustic shape. Alternatively, fold them into triangles or make turnovers by sealing completely with a fork.
  • Apply Egg Wash
    • In a small bowl, beat the egg with a splash of water. Brush the edges of the pastries with the egg wash for a golden, shiny finish.
  • Bake the Pastries
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  • Cool and Garnish
    • Let the pastries cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar or drizzling with icing.
  • Serve
    • Serve warm or at room temperature. These pastries are perfect on their own or paired with coffee or tea.
