Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium-sized sweet potatoes (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 ripe bananas (well-ripened)
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
  • Optional: 1/2 cup shredded carrots or 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Begin by peeling and chopping the sweet potatoes into smaller pieces. Boil them in a pot of water for about 15-20 minutes until they are tender. Alternatively, you can bake them at 400°F (200°C) for 45-60 minutes until soft. Once cooked, drain and let them cool slightly.
  • Mash the Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, mash the boiled sweet potatoes until smooth. Add the ripe bananas and continue to mash until both ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth.
  • Combine Other Ingredients: Add the rolled oats, peanut butter, and melted coconut oil to the sweet potato and banana mixture. If you’re using optional ingredients like shredded carrots or honey, mix them in at this stage.
  • Mix Thoroughly: Using your hands or a spatula, mix all the ingredients together until everything is evenly incorporated. The mixture should be cohesive and slightly sticky.
  • Shape the Balls: Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into balls about one inch in diameter. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart to allow for even cooking.
  • Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the Sweet Potato and Banana Balls for about 25-30 minutes, or until they are firm to the touch.
  • Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the treats from the oven and allow them to cool completely before serving them to your dog. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
