Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (45g) cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips or chunks (optional)

Decorative Ingredients for Halloween Theme:

  • Frosting of your choice (buttercream, marshmallow, etc.)
  • Food coloring (orange, black, green)
  • Candy eyes, sprinkles, or Halloween-themed toppings for decoration

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • Prepare the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Add in the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. If you’re adding chocolate chips or chunks, fold them in now.
  • Fill the Cupcake Liners
Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each liner about 2/3 full.
  • Bake
Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Decorate
Once the cupcakes have cooled, it’s time to decorate! Use frosting of your choice, dyed with food coloring to suit your Halloween theme. Get creative with candy eyes, sprinkles, or other Halloween-themed decorations.
